I am a UWF Foundation Fellow, inducted in 1995 and received the award for Honorary UWF Alumni award in 1993. I was good friends with Maude Bullock Smith, and when she passed away at such a young age, me and many of her family and friends decided to fund a scholarship in the arts in her name to support the arts department.
Impact
To honor a great friend, Maude Bullock Smith. Smith was a graduate of the University of West Florida, with a B.F.A. Degree in Interdisciplinary Humanities, a Fellow of the Hambidge Center for the Createive Arts and Sciences, and was a teacher certified by the National Standards Council of American Embroiderers. Smith was married to Dr. Richard C. Smith, a physics professor and department chair at UWF. Smith was the mother of two boys, Ben and Gordon and was a caring, thoughtful, empathetic, and incredibly strong individual. A professor who served as chair of UWF’s art department and one of Smith’s teachers remembers her paying for students’ materials and bring groceries for those who needed it the most. Smith is an individual who will be honored and remember at UWF forever.
